Equine Assisted Personal Growth & Learning

"There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man" -Winston Churchill

Inner trails provides individuals, groups and families with horse assisted activities designed to inspire self discovery.

Equine assisted programs are experiential in nature. This means that participants learn about themselves and others by participating in activities with the horses, and then processing and reflecting on their feelings, behaviors, and patterns.

Horses mirror human behaviors and give immediate and honest non-verbal feedback. They have no hidden agendas, live in the moment and humans are therefore often more open to receiving feedback from a horse than a human.

Many therapists report a much shorter length of treatment time using an equine assisted therapy approach as the horses seem to remove some barriers that often surface in a traditional office therapy session. That approach helps humans become more aware of how we need to behave and what we need to change in order to achieve improved communication, relationships and exceed our goals.

The focus of our programs is not riding or horsemanship. It involves setting up ground activities involving the horses to challenge their skills.

Non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking and problem-solving, leadership, work, taking responsibility, teamwork and relationships, confidence, and attitude are several examples of areas of learning.

Equine assisted self discovery is a powerful and effective approach that has an incredible impact on individuals, youth, families, and groups. It addresses a variety of growth and development needs including behavioral issues, depression, anxiety, relationship problems and communication skills. This approach has been compared to outdoor experiential therapy including the ropes courses used by therapists, treatment facilities, and human development courses around the world.
